Whoops...
Sign reads: Due to cleaning up around lake and treating algae there will be no fishing until further notice. Please take advantage of our fishing at Glen Miller Park and the Middlefork Reservoir.

Mark Stosberg | The sign certainly leaves room to wonder if the lake is polluted and is actually unsafe to fish in. In January 2006, this document was put online that mentions the "documented pollution impacts from industrial activity" [at Springwood Lake]. I suppose that documentation they are referring to might be this scientific report which concluded "our investigation suggests a more comprehensive assessment of metals concentrations to predict potential metals remobilization and related risks to biota and to human health." Has this further assessment of risk to human health been conducted? Considering Springwood is on the list of former superfund sites, it would seem pollution there might be taken more seriously or mentioned more directly than this sign indicates. |
