A new look for EvanAgee.com!

EvanAgee.com has always been a testing ground for my graphic design and website development endeavors as well as a place for me to keep my family friends and passers-by updated. However, as of late there has been far too much going on in my work and personal life to allow me to keep up with it as much as I would like.

Many of my projects lately have involved custom WordPress themes and I’ve been amazed with the improvements in the platform here in the last year or so. As a result I decided to change my website to 100% WordPress! Hopefully it’ll make it a bit easier to manage and allow me more time to post updates more often.

It’s going to be a process, moving from the old site to the new. Some things will be moving over while other things will come to an end ne’er to be seen again. Hopefully I can update this place to be a better reflection of who I am today, instead of the person I was a few years ago.

So, have a look around but watch your step, it’s hard telling what you might stumble upon.

Getting into podcasting!

For almost a year I’ve had a seldom updated Vidcast, the EvanAgee.com Vidcast. It has been mostly a video diary series but I’m hoping to change that soon to include videos related to the things that I’m interested in such as web development/design, graphic design, photography, music, etc. It’s now on iTunes so if you’d like to subscribe I’d greatly appreciate it.

The church I attend, First Baptist Church of Richmond Indiana is also now podcasting! We finally got a new computer in our sound booth (a 20″ iMac) so now we’re recording the services digitally and releasing the sermon portion of the service online. You can check that out on iTunes as well. I’m really enjoying working on our church’s podcast, not something I get to do often.

For work I’ve been getting into some video-related work as well. We’re adding a component for uploading video that will subsequently be streamed via our video streaming server. It’s something that’s hard to troubleshoot and requires a bit of time but it’s great fun.

Some other great news is that the band I played with a couple of years back, Unseen, is reforming with a slightly altered lineup. This time around we’re playing mostly original music that I’ve written and we’re in the process of writing more. My brother Mitchell is going to be our vocalist so I’m really excited about that. He can sing well and it’ll be great to have a chance to spend more time together.

The State of Things

It feels as if my blog posts lately have been sporadic at best. I suppose it’s mostly due to all of the changes lately, most of them in my professional life. I decided it was a good time to write another entry and tell about the things that have been going on lately. So here it is. Keep Reading…

Some updates to the photography section

I’ve been tearing into the Flickr API over the last few days and I’m really excited about the possibilities! If you take a look at the photography section you’ll see some of the fruits of my labor. It doesn’t seem like a major deal to the non-developers our there but it’s actually very exciting to me! I’m able to post my photos on Flickr as I’m used to doing but also have those same photos available here on this website for visitors.

Take a look at the photography section!

I’m considering adding even more features so you don’t have to visit Flickr in order to view details/comments for a photo but I’m not sure whether or not it’s worth it since Flickr has so many great community building tools built right in. But, at least for now you can browse through my photos quickly and easily without leaving this site.

If you’d got any ideas or requests of things you’d like to see integrated feel free to pass them along as a comment and I’ll see what I can do. Does anyone mind having to go to Flickr get more information on a photo?

Comment on any page of this site

It’s something I’ve wanted to get finished up for some time and now it’s finally done! You can now post comments on any page of this site. At the bottom of each page you’ll see a small form to fill out, simply do so and once I’ve reviewed your comments they will be posted on the site!

This is something that I wrote myself and while I’m pretty confident that it’s solid there may still be a glitch here or there. Let me know if you see anything strange!
