A call for Richmond Indiana / Wayne County Apple Mac users!!!

Tuesday, July 31, 2007

I’m about to start work on the Wayne County Apple Users Group, but before I do so I’d like to hear from any and all users of ANY product made by Apple, Inc. in the area. We need to start building this community and what better way to start than getting in touch with one another?

Feel free to post a comment on this entry OR shoot me an email at evan-at-evanagee.com and we’ll get things rolling. I’d love to have some input from everyone so feel free to include any thoughts you might have about how an Apple User Group might be useful to you.

Some updates to the photography section

Friday, July 13, 2007

I’ve been tearing into the Flickr API over the last few days and I’m really excited about the possibilities! If you take a look at the photography section you’ll see some of the fruits of my labor. It doesn’t seem like a major deal to the non-developers our there but it’s actually very exciting to me! I’m able to post my photos on Flickr as I’m used to doing but also have those same photos available here on this website for visitors.

Take a look at the photography section!

I’m considering adding even more features so you don’t have to visit Flickr in order to view details/comments for a photo but I’m not sure whether or not it’s worth it since Flickr has so many great community building tools built right in. But, at least for now you can browse through my photos quickly and easily without leaving this site.

If you’d got any ideas or requests of things you’d like to see integrated feel free to pass them along as a comment and I’ll see what I can do. Does anyone mind having to go to Flickr get more information on a photo?

Get the most out of your Mac with Quicksilver

Personally I’ve always found the Application folder a bad way to open up a particular app. For a long time I had a Favorites folder filled with aliases to my favorite apps that I stored in the dock. At any time I could right-click on the folder and quickly access any app that I use regularly. But now I’ve found a better way!

For the last few months I’ve been using Quicksilver, “a unified, extensible interface for working with applications, contacts, music and other data.â€? I originally downloaded it after I heard how it could simplify some redundant tasks like opening apps, composing emails etc. I’ve never really considered an app launcher very useful but Quicksilver has changed all of that.

You really need to try Quicksilver to see how great it is, but here’s an example of how awesome it is. Let’s say you want to open Firefox. As I have configured Quicksilver I simply press Control+Space to open the Quicksilver search, start typing Firefox and Quicksilver will automatically select Firefox as you type. If you want to start Firefox simply press Enter and it’s launched.

I highly recommend trying it out, you won’t be able to live without it after a short time.
