Introducing My Music!

GuitarI’ve been a musician since I was 12 years old and while my love for music doesn’t manifest itself in the same ways that it used to I have a deep-rooted appreciation and adoration for music that sometimes bubbles out of me if I suppress it too long. Now I’m ready to share this music with anyone who’s interested!

The new My Music section on EvanAgee.com is a place for me to put my music out there for you to hear. Not only can you visit my website to get the latest songs but I’ll also offering the songs in syndication for the RSS lovers out there (coming soon).

Journler: Great, free journal software for the Mac

JournlerSince April of this year I’ve been doing a lot of journaling. Something about hitting my mid-twenties (and sometimes forgetting things I never thought I would) has made me realize my need to keep track of the things that happen in my life. Obviously there are many apps out there that would allow me to write a journal, Word or even TextEdit would work just fine, but I wanted something that would allow me to associate photos, music and even video with my entries so I could even better keep track of the truly important events in my life.

In the recent issue of MacWorld one of their hot pics for software was a journaling application called MacJournal. It seemed to do everything that I wanted but it also had a price tag that I didn’t believe I could justify. So I did a little research and found a great application called Journler by Phil Dow. It’s up to version 2.0.1 and it’s in active development so while there are a few MINOR problems with the software it’s getting better with each new release. Perhaps its strongest feature is its integration with Apple’s iLife suite. Much like other iLife apps Journler has a media browser built in that allows you to drag and drop pictures, movies and music right into your entries.

Journler IconI just started using the software but I can already tell that this is going to be a great way for me to organize a journal and even maintain this weblog. In fact, I wrote this entry in Journler!

So, if you’re looking for a great journal/diary manager for the Mac look no further than Journler!

Flickr Stuff

PepperAs I wrote about recently I had some of my photos featured on Flickr’s Explore page. What does that mean? Well, there are millions of photos uploaded to Flickr every day and as those photos come in the Flickr staff watch for photos that they deem to be interesting. How interesting a photo is can be determined by many things but something tells me it’s mostly just whether or not the photo catches their eyes. Either way, they choose your photos and the result is that thousands of people are all of a sudden looking at your photos (in particular the one they chose as interesting).

The bad news is that other than a spike in the number of interaction you get from other users there’s no good way to tell which of your photos have been deemed interesting by the powers that be. Or at least I didn’t think there was… If you’d like to find out which of your photos have been featured on Flickr’s Explore page simple visit the page below and input your e-mail address or User ID for your Flickr account and you’ll be shown a list of your images that are/were featured on Explore as well as their current rank for that day.

The Imminent Switch

I’ve rambled on and on about my love for Apple and their products many many times on this website. Make no mistake, I love Apple as a company, their products and what they represent. Their unfailing ability to produce hardware and software that is far above all others is something that I admire greatly. I’ve been using a Mac at work for the last 5 or so years and since then I’ve been wanting to get one for home so I could end my double life as an Mac OS and Windows user. Now, in a matter of days, it will be over.

In preparation for this substantial purchase I’ve been doing much research and trying to find out whether it’s smart to purchase a PowerMac G5 now or wait an unknown amount of time until the new Intel-based Mac Pros come out. My research has been conclusive (at least for me), I’m ready to buy now. To find out the details you can read my previous post “Mac purchasing through 2006?

PowerMac G5 and MonitorSo, which machine did I decided to go with? The Dual 2.3 Ghz PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0 Ghz PowerMac G5. We’ve decided that we’re going to purchase the computer from the Apple store in Indianapolis rather than order it online through Apple or an authorized reseller. The main reason is that I’m just too impatient. We’re also going to be purchasing a 20″ Apple Cinema Display, which gets me very excited. I’ve been using the previous generation of the 20″ ACD for the last couple of years and it’s just amazing.

So, soon I’ll be preparing these blog postings from my new PowerMac G5! Stay tuned for notes from the switch.
