In the midst of the “switch”

Tuesday, October 25, 2005

I hate using Windows. Sure, I’ve been using it for the last 10 years or so, but I hate it. I’ve never been happy with all of the little bugs that I have to put up with. I’ve never been happy with the very boring computer-ish look of Windows and I’ve never been happy with having to deal with all of the virus and spyware scares out there. I hate Windows, so I don’t plan on using it anymore. What will I use instead? Well, what if I told you that it’s free, that all of the software that I use on my computer is (legally) free and that it works better, looks nicer and is faster than Windows? Hopefully, if you’re a half-way intelligent person, you’d be interested in switching too.

Exploring Indiana through photography

Fall treesThis weekend was one of the most memorable that I’ve had for quite some time. Friday evening Kristen and I went to see Richmond Civic Theatre’s production the Diary of Anne Frank, which was quite wonderful. The highlight of my weekend however took place most of the day on Saturday.

Kristen had been planning all week to take a trip to Muncie to do some clothes shopping with her birthday money. I myself however have long since become tired of trips to Muncie so I opted to stay here in Richmond while she and her mom went out to clothes shopping bliss. What was I going to do all day while she was gone? Take pictures. I called up Jamie (my brother-in-law) and we both went out into the country, cameras in tow. What ensued was a wonderful day of exploration and sight-seeing in some of the most beautiful country wilderness that I’ve ever seen.

Get out and enjoy the fall weather!

Thursday, October 20, 2005

One of the greatest things about living in this part of the country is the beautiful fall scenery. The brightly colored leaves, the slight chill in the air, the fields full of corn ready to be harvested all make for some of the most picturesque scenery anywhere. If you’re like me and you’re looking for some ways to be out and about this weekend so you can enjoy the fall weather, consider some of these events.

New PowerMacs, PowerBooks and Aperture

Wednesday, October 19, 2005

Apple never fails to amaze me, and today’s announcements were no exception. Today Apple announced some not-so-great updates to the PowerBook line, some great changes to the PowerMac line and a new pro application for photographers called Aperture.

Apple hardware announcement expected today

PowerMacApple is set to release their “latest pro innovations” today just before the PhotoPlus expo. I wrote earlier about Apple’s new iMac and how it made the decision of whether to buy a PowerMac or an iMac more difficult than I thought. Will this announcement make that decision easier? Will we see a new/upgraded PowerMac? Will Apple include the FrontRow functionality on the PowerMacs as well? We’ll have to wait and see.

From ThinkSecret.com: “Late last week, Apple sent invitations for the third time in the last two months to select analysts and members of the media inviting them to an event that seems poised to finally see, among other likely announcements, the introduction of new PowerBooks and Power Mac systems that Think Secret initially anticipated would debut at last week’s media event.

Unconfirmed reports received since our last story on the new systems have suggested that Apple retail stores may have already received stock of at least some of the new Power Macs. Increasing chatter has suggested that Apple could drop its lowest-end PowerBook offering and bump the specifications on its other models. At least one of the new 15-inch PowerBook G4 systems could sport a display with a 1440×900 resolution — the same as the current 17-inch PowerBook — suggesting that Apple’s high-end offering may likely also get a display upgrade. Documentation that shipped with Apple’s last 17-inch PowerBook, which started shipping in February, suggested that the company had intended to offer a display with an HD-supporting 1920×1200 resolution. It’s unclear whether that will finally arrive tomorrow, however.

Will we have a new PowerMac or PowerBook by the end of the day? We’ll see! Check back later for an update.
