A great weekend!

We had a very good weekend! We got a chance to go out and do some shopping and get a few things that we wanted and needed. Elder Beerman had their Moonlight Madness sale going on so we got a few things for 50% off.

Saturday night was the Richmond Bicentennial Parade so I took that opportunity to go down and get some photos of the event. Most of them were too blurry because it was dark, but I managed to get a few good ones. I’ll be posting those online soon for your viewing pleasure.

It was also the weekend before my birthday so I got a few great gifts. From Kristen I got a computer game Rome Total War, a 1Gb memory card for my digital camera (so I can now hold close to 700 full quality images on my camera), and two new shirts. Kristen’s parents got me the first season of In Living Color, one of the funniest shows ever and gave me some cash as well to buy something else that I wanted. My dad got me a wonderful DVD that I’ve wanted for some time that features a color guard that I really like called the Pride of Cincinnati and their shows from the last 20 years. I’m going to be getting a steak dinner from my mom this weekend, so I’m looking forward to that.

I also spent some time on Sunday working on a video for my brother-in-law’s Mazda RX-7. He’s planning to trade it for another project car so he can start over and wanted to capture all of the work that he’s done on video. I mostly did the recording, he’s now working on the edit. I’ll try to post it once it’s finished.

Some minor site updates

I made a few updates to the site last night to improve the page loading times throughout the site. I hope you can tell a difference! I also added some photos to the gallery if you haven’t noticed already. I’m thinking about doing a minor overhaul of the gallery code as well, so be watching for improvements to that over time.

A strange thing…

I wouldn’t think anything of this if it hadn’t happened one or two times before… Today I was sitting at my desk at work. I opened the drawer on my left and noticed my watch (which has had a dead battery for nearly 3 years) sitting there. I pulled it out and noticed that it had stopped at 10:34, which is exactly the time that it was at that moment.

Like I said, this has happened at least once before that I can remember. Did it make such an impression on my subconscious that I somehow knew to look in my drawer and see the watch at that moment? Who knows…

New search feature added

In hopes of making it easier for you to find the information you’re looking for on my site I’ve added a new search feature. What’s great about it is that it gives you access to every single bit of content on my site from the gallery to the online journal. You can now search in one place to find anything on my site.

You can leave, but you can never go back…

I’ve rambled on and on before in my journal about how I miss being in marching band and playing, and even though I know you’re probably sick of hearing about how much I wish I was back in those days again, this is my journal, so it’s only right that I write about the things that I’m thinking and feeling. So, having said that…

Last week Kristen and I went to the evening show of the Indiana State Fair Band Day competition. This is the end-all contest for many Indiana high school marching bands just as it was for me durning my 4 years in high school. It was this contest and the events leading up to this contest each that take up my high school memories.

We watched all 16 of the top track bands from Indiana perform in hopes of taking the top spot of the evening. While we were there to see the local bands in the area (which also happen to be some of the best ones there), there were a couple of bands from other parts of the state that we really wanted to see as well. There had been a lot of talk this year about Centerville’s Blue Regiment, the band that Kristen and I played in during high school. They’ve always done increadibly well despite the fact that they’re one of the smallest bands there, and this year was no exception. Out of 42 bands they were the #1 small band and the #3 overall band. What am amazing accomplishment. I was proud to have marched in that band. They also won all of the small band caption awards (other than guard).

I really miss being involved. I miss being a part of the comeradery that goes along with spending nearly every waking hour with a group of like-minded people. I miss playing. Centerville is planning on doing winter drumline this year and Brad Hobson, one of their percussion instructors (and one of the members of the drumline when I was there) called me and mentioned that he may want my help this winter. Hopefully that will turn into something, I know I would love it.
