Some Updates

I haven’t written anything of substance for quite a while so I wanted to take the time and give some updates on what’s going on.

Things have been pretty busy lately. My class is well underway and I’m doing really well so far. I’ve been getting As on all of my homework and I’m understanding what’s going on. I’m really looking forward to getting into some of the core classes for this degree. I find business to be interesting and I can’t wait to have a better understanding of all of the aspects involved.

Kristen and I are in the process of trying to get money together for our trip to Florida next month for her cousin’s wedding. Kristen is going to be a bride’s maid in the wedding and we’ll need to have money for hotels and eating while we’re down there. I’ve been trying to do what I can to scrounge up extra money here and there. We’ve been doing lots to reduce our monthly expenses and so far things are going great.

I’ve been considering starting a small, informal business to try and bring in some extra money. I wouldn’t really be doing anything differently than I have been for the last year or so, but I’ll probably try to come up with a logo and do some small scale marketing so I can try and get some work coming in. I’d like to offer design for brochures, posters, business cards and other printed items. I’ve been doing that sort of work informally for more than 5 years and it’s been a nice way to stay involved in several different areas of graphic design. I’m also hoping it will be a good testing ground for tools and techniques I learn in my classes. We’ll see what happens. I’ll probably start a website for it shortly and develop some brochures. I’ll try to start getting the word out locally and see if I can attract some interest.

Kristen is out of school for the summer and she’s enjoying her time off. She’s been trying to adjust to her new schedule but she still ends up going to bed pretty early most of the time. We’ve been able to do a lot more things since she’s been done and it has been very nice.

This weekend we spent most of the day Saturday overhauling the yard. It’s looking really great. After that we went around to different areas and took some photos. I’ll be posting some of those on here shortly.
