Taking steps

Today’s been a good day. Kristen and I met this morning with a mortgage broker and learned more about what our options are for buying a house. They approved us there on the spot for the amount we were wanting, but the monthly payment was just a little out of our reach. We also found out that our credit ratings are good… well, mine is “Good. Better than average.” and Kristen’s is “Very, very, very Good.” in the mortgage broker’s words. :)

Either way, we were very excited to find out that we can afford to buy the quality of house we want and still not have to pay very much per month. Now we just have to decide what we’re going to do about moving to Arizona… More on that later.

That’s about the only thing that’s new. I’ll write back when I have more.

Buying our rental?

Well, things are going great right now. Kristen and I just found out that our current landlords are interested in selling the house we’re renting to us in the future. Now all we have to do is find a good way to finance it.

There’s not a lot going on right now. We’re mostly looking into and planning things we want to do once we actually own the house. We’re thinking of finishing the basement so we can add some more room and then we’ll actually have 3 bedrooms and an office instead of 2 bedrooms and an office. That would be nice. Some other improvements we’re thinking of making are new flooring in the kitchen and bathroom and probably refinishing all of the baseboards and other wood trim throughout the house.

I’m starting to get very intimidated by the process of buying a house. I’ve been doing lots of research to find out what’s involved and I’m amazed at all of the work it takes. We understand that the more of a downpayment we have, the better but it’s not easy to save that kind of money. We’ll see what happens.

We’re also working on planning a fund raiser for the youth group. Apparently Kristen knows a teacher at Connersville Middle School where she’s student teaching this year that buys candy at wholesale from a local provider. We’re thinking of buying tons of that candy (which is just about any candy that’s every existed) and reselling it. That would be a fun way to raise some extra money I think. Plus, a friend of our from church who owns a garage says he always sells that kind of stuff at the garage to customers and employees and that we can leave a bunch with him if we want.

Well, I think that’s it for now.

Youth group yard sale

Well, the youth group yard sale went on without a hitch and we made over $1,100!!! We were expecting to make about $500 or maybe at most $700, but in the end we were very happy with the results.

There’s not much going on right now. Kristen and I are contemplating buying a house. We love the house we’re in right now and we’re thinking about asking the owners (which go to our church) if they’re interested in selling it to us. We’re very excited about the possibility of being able to do whatever we want to the house.

Remember my brother Mitchell that moved to Arizona a while back? Well, he’s changed for the better and has learned a lot about what life is about. He’s been in Arizona for about 7 months now and he’s had a terrible time trying to get a job. He started out at Home Depot as a department manager, but they layed a bunch of people off and he was one of them. After that, he just couldn’t find anything. So, he’s moving back to Indiana. New Castle to be exact. I’m excited about being able to see him, but I wish things would have worked out better for him.

Well, I guess that’s it for now. I’ll be writing back soon with more news I hope.
