School’s coming to an end…

Well, the semester is coming to an end, and so are my first two years of college; this all meaning that after May 9, 2002 I will have my first college degree, an AS in Computer Graphics Technology. I must say that it has been a long time coming, but I have learned more than I ever imagined about computers, graphics, and learning. I am not taking any classes this summer which should be a very nice break considering it will be my first summer without anything to do for more than 7 years. Very excited about this.

I take my final exam in Physics 2 tomorrow, and I am not really nervous even though the material we are covering is WAY more intense than anything else you could learn. The level of thought is just unbelievable. I think that overall I am AMAZED at the quality of education you can receive right here in Richmond. I was very upset when I first realized that I was going to have to stay here in Richmond and enroll in the Purdue programs because I didn’t think it was going to be much of a challenge, but I was wrong. Thankfully.

However, there seems to be quite a rift between the IUEast programs and the Purdue programs. Even though IUEast is thought to be the host campus for the Purdue programs, Purdue is blowing them out of the water in terms of teacher quality and student/teacher interaction. I have had to take classes through IUEast to get my AS degree, and I am very unhappy with most of the instructors I had for my IUEast classes (apart from maybe my Physics, Calculus, and English teachers). Either way, I think it is important to let students know about the possibilities that await them right here in their hometown of Richmond.

Either way, I still feel that going to Purdue here in Richmond is the best decision I could have made, I have a great job, I make a good living, I’m getting married, and I am happy, what more could you ask for?

Death comes around again…

Well, I just found out that my step-great-grandmother just died. I did know her well, but her somewhat incoherent state over the last few years had put somewhat of a wedge between us.

She used to baby-sit Mitchell (my brother) and I, and we had a lot of fun with her in a time period that seemed pretty glum to us. She was a lot of fun to be with.

Aside from that, all is well, things are a little slow at work, but that is cool, luckily this is my free check, the check that besides my car payment basically goes toward anything that I want. I won’t think about getting an additional job just yet. :)

As of right now, I still have about $500 left to pay out of the original almost $2000 for our cruise, so I am getting very excited about that, and anything I have an extra $100 I go make a payment.

Another thing worth noting is that I just completed a website for a local woman that is running for Wayne Township Assessor. Her name is Betty Smith, and you can see the website I created here.

Also, related to website development I just volunteered to work with my favorite CGT (Computer Graphics Technology) instructor Frank Brattain over the summer on two website projects, the website for the CGT programs in Richmond at Purdue, and a website for the SolidWorks user group here in Richmond. That should be fun, and I like helping people out (especially when it involves a website.) :)

Well, I think that is about it, check back for more updates soon.

Spring?

It seems as though spring might be here, and the weather may stop playing its morbid game of is it spring or is it winter. I was getting pretty sick of all of the cold weather, and those few days we had last week of warm weather just set my heart on this Summer.

Weather.com says that it is 77 degrees outside, but with the Indiana humidity, it feels like 80’s. I would like to be outside and soaking up the sunshine like it was never going to come again, but I’ve got bills to pay just like every other human being on this Earth not living with his/her parents, so I take the chance and suffer the opportunity costs of a life not labeled as “loser-like”.

I have been trying to eat more healthy for the past couple of weeks, and things have been going really well. Believe it or not, I have gone more than a week without drinking any pops or soda’s at all, just water, and one cup of cranberry juice this weekend. However, today for lunch I brokedown and had a nice cold A&W Root Beer at the local A&W All American Food place. However, I don’t feel as if I have failed my goal, I just took a 5 minute break.

Well, graduation is nearing, and I am ready. I feel as if I have done nothing but work with little rest for the last couple of years. My graduation is on Friday, May 10th in the evening. I should be one of the first people to cross the platform, which will be cool. I am not taking any classes this Summer or this Fall due to the wedding and making adjustments to that. I do, however, plan on starting at IUPUI in the Spring if my work situation will be all right, and I can deal with the drive.

Well, I believe that is it for now, check back soon for more updates.
